Attorney Area: Pro Bono Services
According to Wikipedia: "Pro bono publico (usually shortened to pro bono) is a phrase derived from Latin meaning "for the public good". The term is generally used to describe professional work undertaken voluntarily and without payment as a public service. It is common in the legal profession and is increasingly seen in marketing, technology, and strategy consulting firms. Pro bono service, unlike traditional volunteerism, uses the specific skills of professionals to provide services to those who are unable to afford them."
Among the poor, the need for legal services is overwhelming. The results of an American Bar Association study showed that at least 40% of the low- and moderate-income households experience a legal problem annually. The collective civil legal aid effort is meeting only about 20% of the legal needs of the low-income people. For the last several years, Alpha has participated in supplying pro bono services to those in need. We have also made it an annual practice to participate in food drives, fund-raisers, and charitable contributions. If we all did a little, what a difference we could make.
